ETTORE SANTARELLI

Ettore Santarelli was born in Forlì, on October 31, 1924.

In Ravenna he attended the Nautical School where he obtained the Diploma of Master Shipwright, but the war events of the Second World War forced him to interrupt his studies and passion, which he resumed in 1948, only after his military discharge. Sailing became the great point of his life, in “a crescendo” of activity and challenge. With a group of friends, he began a journey of attendance and success on the regatta fields, first aboard a "Snipe" and then aboard a “Flying Dutchman”.

In the early 50s he began self-producing sails for his own boats, quickly moving on to producing sails for his racing friends. Among the first to import the “dacron” fabrics of the American Howe & Baindbridge, his sails immediately met with great success even among the “champions”, who became loyal users.

At the end of 1957 he moved to Lake Garda, which would remain his “home of water and wind” for the rest of his life. In the early 60s he began his career as a designer and builder that would give life to his first hull: STRALE, a fast and competitive dinghy, which brought with it elements of innovation, both in terms of design and construction.

From this debut, the path would be unstoppable and the name of Ettore Santarelli would not only be linked to his own projects. The intense activity of the following years, accompanied by a growing experience in construction and always imprinted by a strong innovative matrix, will make him become a point of reference for internationally renowned designers such as Gary Mull, Doug Peterson, Bruce Farr and others, who will entrust him with the realization of their projects.

From the 80s onwards his work as a designer focused on the “monotype”: ASSO 99 (1982), JOKER (1990), DOLPHIN 81 (1992), still give life to seasons of exciting competitions. The work on the monotype has however created the opportunity for projects in evolution of the same, such as Modulo 105 (1991), Modulo 108 (1993), Modulo 93 (1993/1994), Modulo 123 (1995).

All of Ettore Santarelli's projects have expressed great qualities both on the lake and at sea, bringing great results, in triangle or long-distance regattas, combining excellent performance in terms of speed and handling, reliability and safety. The speed record for the category, achieved with the Modulo 108 “CORUM”, in 1994 at the “Bol d’Or” on Lake Geneva, was unbeaten for 20 years. He passed away in Desenzano del Garda in January 23, 1996.

EDITIONS

Ettore Santarelli
il sogno, la passione, il coraggio

"to my father” I dedicate to you, dad, these pages that are deliberately untied, only folded, to whose content I have not intended to give a precise order, neither of time, nor of place or topic .... The disorder and randomness are ultimately only apparent because they respond to the heart, to the resurfacing of memories, to the surprise of the unexpected discovery of traces of a life lived “going to the max, with full sails" ..... simply to the succession of emotions
